Frances Alice, daughter of Harry and Dessie (Raygor) Knight, was born November 10 1925 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1945 and received her Normal Training there. Frances taught country school and lived with the Vaughn family south of Bayard during that time. On May 21, 1946 Frances was united in marriage with Homer Kinman in Carroll. They farmed north of Adair and south of Guthrie Center before returning to the Coon Rapids area in 1957. Frances and Homer opened the 4 Kin Café when they returned to Coon Rapids. After its closing she worked at the South Side Café for a time. Frances was also a homemaker caring for their three children and helping her husband with the farm work. Her husband died in November of 1979. Later in life Frances worked at the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing home in the kitchen for a number of years. Frances was a very active woman, enjoying embroidery, crafts, quilting, Bingo and playing cards. She was a Foster Grandparent and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. In 2009 Frances moved to Des Moines to live with her son Shawn and wife Lori. When her health began to fail she became a resident of Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines, where she died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 28 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Homer Kinman; brothers Earl Knight, Clair Knight and William Knight; sisters Josephine Knight, Dorothy (Bill) Stroud, and Katherine (Hans) Heiken; brothers in law Howard Kinman, Harold Kinman, Hugh Kinman, Don Henning and Hal Kinman; sisters in law Clara Knight, Jean Knight and Helen Knight, Mildred Kinman and Roane Kinman. Frances is survived by her children: Carol (Roger) Behn of Omaha, NE; Jim (Hazel) Kinman of the Philippines and Shawn (Lori) Kinman of Norwalk; grandchildren Bradley Kinman, Brian Kinman and Nicholas Kinman, Shannon Fredenburg and Hallie Kinman; 11 great grandchildren; brother Lyle Knight of Coon Rapids; sister Virginia Henning of Jefferson; Darlene Kinman of Guthrie Center and Genevieve Kinman of Adair; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
