Faye Esta Lewis Erb Betts was born on October 26, 1916. Faye Esta was her given name by her parents, Charlie and Minnie (Pierce) Lewis. She was born in Guthrie County, Iowa and attended country school near her home with her 4 brothers and 1 sister. Her first marriage was to Roger Erb and to this union, a daughter, Janice, was born. During the Depression years, she worked at the grocery store owned by Dillon Barky? Johnston on Main Street in Coon Rapids. In 1946, she married Kenneth Red? Betts and lived in the Coon Rapids area on various farms until they bought the Betts home place on Stagecoach Road where they continued to live until retirement. Faye was an accomplished, self-taught seamstress who quilted, and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Clubs and church work were a major part of her life. She was a charter member of the TTT, a 50-year past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge, a member of United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Womens organization. She also belonged to S & C Sewing Club and H & H Card Club. Of all these activities, she was mostly proud of being a charter member (along with Mildred Shirbroun) of the apple dumpling project for the Methodist church, which has continued for many years as a successful fundraiser. Red Betts died on November 22, 1998. In 1999, Faye became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and passed away there on Saturday, July 15, 2006. She was 89 years, 8 months and 19 days of age. Besides her parents and husband, Faye was preceded in death by all four of her brothers and her only sister. She is survived by her daughter, Janice and husband Robert Jackson of Inverness, Florida; sisters-in-law: Luine Lewis (Mrs. Don Lewis) of Adel, Pearl Betts (Mrs. Orville Betts), and Dorothy Lewis (Mrs. Howard Lewis) of Jefferson and several nieces and nephews and many friends. Fayes family requests that all gifts be directed to the First United Methodist Church memorial fund.
