Evelyn Marie Olerich, daughter of Michael and Catherine (Venteicher) Balk, was born on January 7, 1920 in Willey, Iowa. She attended St. Marys School in Willey and later worked in the hotel industry and as a secretary for the government.
On September 16, 1946, Evelyn was united in marriage with Marvin Olerich in Carroll. The family made their home on a farm near Mt. Carmel, just east and north of Als Corner, where Evelyn worked as a homemaker. In 1978 they moved to California and returned to Carroll in 1987.
Evelyn enjoyed volunteering with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. In her spare time she loved to spend time with family, garden, cook, play golf, dance and play cards.
In 2004, Evelyn became a resident of Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. She died there on February 27, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 20 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, in 2005; siblings: Anna Kerper, Clemens Balk, Philomena Hofbauer, Clara Kasperbauer, Elenore Pudenz, Gertrude Olerich, Bernice Olerich, Hilbert Balk and Cleota Soldin.
Evelyn is survived by sons: Keith Olerich and wife Donna of Centennial, CO; Dennis Olerich and wife Sharon of Carroll; Dean Olerich and wife Dee of Breda and Dan Olerich of Sac City; daughters: Kay and husband Bud Stowe of Clive; Linda and husband Ken Klocko of Rockwell City and Kristy and husband Robert Malone of Boone; 17 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Rita Gilbert of San Diego, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
