Evelyn Botilda, daughter of Anton and Katie (Eskov) Jensen, was born April 17, 1916, in Shelby County, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home and then, after completing her education, she worked out in the homes of families living in the area.

On March 17, 1936, Evelyn was united in marriage with Ralph Hansen. They made their home on a farm in Clay Township, Shelby County, Iowa. Evelyn worked along with her husband on the farm and was a dedicated homemaker. They raised five children on the farm. Evelyn always had a large garden and preserved the produce. Baking was a necessity as well as a pastime in later years. She did a lot of sewing, crocheting and embroidery, making many quilts over the years for her grand-children. In her spare time she enjoyed reading.

Evelyn was a member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church and faithfully attended the early service. He husband died unexpectedly in 1982 and Evelyn continued to live on the farm, learning to drive at that time. She was independent and enjoyed living on their farm until she fell on Sunday, June 8, at which time she entered Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She died there on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the age of 92 years and 2 months.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters Margaret Sommer and Jean Bruch; youngest son Peter Hansen; sister Mildred Andersen; and brother-in-law Clifford Andersen.

She is survived by her daughter Doris and husband Henry Jones of Elk Horn; son Richard Hansen of Milan, MO; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law John Sommer of Janesville and Marvin Bruch of Oregon City, OR; daughter-in-law Linda Hansen of Elk Horn; sister Glenda Andersen of Elk Horn; brother Maynard Jensen and wife Rose Marie of Kimballton; brother-in-law Elmer Andersen of Elk Horn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
