Eugene “Gene” John Venner, son of Tony and Dorothy (Zurn) Venner, was born September 11, 1951 at St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized in Maple River and later confirmed his faith at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. He grew up on a farm Northwest of Manning.

Gene's passion for farming was evident from a young age. After graduating from Manning High School in 1970, he joined his father in the family farming operation. For 52 years, Gene worked tirelessly alongside his brother Ron, tending to cattle, pigs, chickens, and cultivating rows of corn and soybeans. His hard work and commitment to agriculture were truly admirable.

Beyond his contributions to the farming industry, Gene was known for his love of driving his side by side around the country. This simple pleasure brought him great joy and allowed him to appreciate the beauty of the rural landscape he called home.

Throughout his life, Gene was known for his vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to his passions. An avid animal lover, particularly to his beloved dog Allie. Gene found great joy in attending the Iowa State Fair and local fairs, relishing the unique experiences each event had to offer. His attention to detail and strong work ethic were evident in all aspects of his life, reflecting a man who took pride in his every endeavor.

Those who knew Gene will remember him as a charismatic conversationalist with a quick wit and infectious humor. He had a special ability to bring laughter and light-heartedness into any room he entered, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Gene's faith was an integral part of his life. On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Gene passed away peacefully at Accura Healthcare of Carroll. He was 72 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Deanne Fuchs.

He is survived by his brother, Ron Venner of Manning; sister, Jan and her husband Doyle Fuchs of Dripping Springs, Texas; nephew, Jeremy Fuchs and his wife Kristen of Austin, Texas and their children: Henry and Lillian Fuchs; uncle, Cyril Venner and his wife Anita of Arcadia; aunt, Dorothy Bellinghausen of Carroll; other relatives and friends.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Gene’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 with visitation to resume from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Church for Masses in Gene's name.
