Ernestine Maria Lappe

Ernestine Maria, daughter of George and Anna (Korbéli) Herbert, was born July 19, 1922 at Pécs, Hungary. She graduated from high school and then entered nurses training. In January of 1950 Ernestine emigrated to the United States of America, settling in Carroll, Iowa. She worked at Tryon Nursing Home for two years then St. Anthony Hospital for three years. Ernestine was united in marriage with Anton Tony' Lappe on June 6, 1952 at Des Moines. They made their home on a farm near Lanesboro. She continued her nursing work at Lake City Hospital from 1955 to 1974. The next year they moved to Carroll where her husband died in December of that year. Ernestine continued to live in their home in Carroll after her husband's death. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Catholic Daughters of America and Holy Spirit Guild. She loved to travel, play cards, especially bridge, and do fancy work. On Saturday, May, 10, 2014, Ernestine entered St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, where she died at the age of 91 years, 9 months and three weeks. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Anton Lappe; two brothers; four sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law. Ernestine is survived by her sister-in-law Valeria Laki in Hungary and numerous nieces and nephews.
