Eleanor Margaret, daughter of Peter and Magdalena (Truhe) Eischeid, was born February 13, 1917, near Roselle in Carroll County, Iowa. As a young girl, Eleanors family moved to a farm near Halbur where she attended school. Following her schooling, Eleanor stayed at home to help care for her nine younger brothers and sisters. On January 25, 1938, Eleanor was united in marriage with Alex Edward Irlmeier at St. Augustines Church in Halbur. Four children were born to this union. Eleanor and Alex farmed near Templeton for several years before moving to a farm south of Manning in Audubon County. Alex died on March 2, 1972. Eleanor remained on the farm until 1977 when she moved into a home on South Main Street in Manning. In 1981 Eleanor built a new house on Center Street where she remained until entering a nursing home in Carroll in early 2000. Eleanor was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning, participating with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Altar Society. She enjoyed photography, quilting, ceramics, gardening and flowers, and volunteering at the Manning Plaza. In her later years, Eleanor looked forward to traveling with her friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. Eleanor suffered a stroke in 2000, and after a fall in May of this year, her health declined. She died at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Iowa, on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 9 days. Besides her parents and husband, Eleanor is preceded in death by brothers Edward Eischeid, Fred Eischeid, and Melvin Eischeid, and sister Elaine Bolster. Eleanor is survived by four children: Janice and husband Denny Langel of Waukee; Terry Irlmeier and wife Diane of Clive; Dave Irlmeier and wife Nadine of Manning; Kevin Irlmeier and wife Tina of Medina, North Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: Wilfred Eischeid of Halbur; Linus Eischeid and wife JoAnn of Carroll; Julie Baumhover of Carroll; Marlene and husband Edward Willenborg of Carroll; Bernie and husband Jim Harrison of Omaha; sisters-in-law Shirley Eischeid of Carroll and Marie Eischeid of Halbur; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
