Edwin Ed? Bandow
Edwin August Ed? son of Louis and Milda (Miller) Bandow, was born April 19, 1929 at Manilla, Iowa. He grew up on a farm north of Manilla and attended country school near his home before attending high school in Manilla. From 1946 to 1948, Ed served in the United States Navy as a flagman aboard a ship in the Pacific Ocean. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Ed returned to Manilla.
On August 16, 1951, Ed was united in marriage with Helen Boeck. Nine children were born into this union. Ed and Helen made their home in Manilla. Ed worked as a heavy equipment operator for Crawford County and then for Boeck Construction. Later, after working with Ray Boeck, he started his own business, Ed Bandow Dozer Service, running it for several years before retiring in 2004. Most important to Ed were his family, working in his yard, and Hawkeye football.
On April 7, 2007, Ed died at his home in Manilla, Iowa after a brief and unexpected illness, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 19 days.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mack Bandow.
He is survived by his wife Helen Bandow of Manilla; children: Deb and husband John Blom of Manilla; Georgetta and husband Mike Barry of Manilla; Stan Bandow and wife Donna of Jonestown, Texas; Scott Bandow and wife Lorie of Manilla; Wyatt Bandow and wife Sylvia of Manilla; Dale Bandow and wife Jane of Manilla; Kelly Rutherford of Carroll; Kim and husband Greg Terlisner of Manilla; and Rachel and husband Kevin Donahue of Jonestown, Texas; 28 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Berdine Petersen of Ida Grove, Virgine Ohl of Denison and Georgine Sievertsen of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother Irv Bandow of Estherville; and many other relatives and friends.
