Edward William, son of Edger and Dorothy (Tegels) Heisterkamp, was born October 26, 1944 at Carroll, Iowa. He attended St. Bernard School in Breda and later earned his GED while serving the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After returning to Iowa, he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Dorpinghaus on August 20, 1966. Four children were born to this union. Ed worked at the Breda Creamery, Farm Service and several jobs in Carroll before moving to Coon Rapids in 1971. He began trucking in 1978 for Crouse Cartage Company. In 1990 he was an owner/operator leasing to Crouse Cartage Company. In 2002 he retired and was on disability. Ed was a member of Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Disabled Veterans of America. He held several offices in the local and state American Legion and was currently serving as Adjutant of Gurney Parker Post 357. He was involved with the Legion Bingo night. Ed enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and playing cards. Ed's health had been declining and he died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 5 days. Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Donnie Heisterkamp; two sisters Charlotte Hike and Donna Rae Underberg and sister in law Nancy Heisterkamp. Ed is survived by his wife Mary Heisterkamp of Coon Rapids; children Deanna (Rod) Frank of Manning, Patricia Heisterkamp of Manning, Edwin (Shannon) Heisterkamp of Carroll and Eric (Christy) Heisterkamp of Glidden; 11 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; siblings Ronnie (Mary Jane) Heisterkamp of Morrow, GA, Ralph (Linda) Heisterkamp of Lake City and Marilyn (Rudy) Babe of Breda; brothers in law Paul Hike, Sr. of Scranton and Harlan Underberg of Lidderdale; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
