Casketbearers ROBERT BORNHOLDT JOSEPH STROEHER LARRY PETERSEN BRUCE THYSEN ALLEN ANDERSEN RICHARD MARDESEN Edward Howard, son of Jens Peter and Cecelia Hyrup (Sornsen) Christensen, was born September 8, 1920, on his parents farm west of Kimballton, Iowa. Ed was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. He attended rural school, Sharon #9, graduating from the eighth grade and then began working on the family farm. On March 3, 1945, Ed was united in marriage with Betty Biederman at Harlan. They made their home on the family farm. Three children, two daughters and one son, were born to this union. Ed farmed the home place with his brother Raymond until Raymonds retirement in 1978. He was committed to farming, however Ed did enjoy going to town to play cards with his buddies. After his wife died in 1998 Ed continued to farm with his son. When his health started to fail, he became a resident of Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn in July of 2005. Ed died there on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the age of 86 years and 26 days. Preceding Ed in death are his parents; wife Betty; three sisters Marie and husband Hans Albertsen; Ada and husband Vernon Miller; Tena and husband Bennie Elmquist; two brothers Raymond Christensen; and a brother in infancy. Ed is survived by three children: Carolyn and husband Wayne Behrend of Manilla; Donna and husband Duane Rathman of Springdale, AK; and Brent Christensen and Janice of Kimballton; four grandchildren: Debra Reed; Wendy and husband Scott Kalbaugh; Tracy and husband Chris Anzalone; and Britt and husband Mike Graham; six great-grandchildren: Trey and Kyler Kalbaugh; Michael, Aliesha and Nolan Reed; and Brandi Graham; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
