She was raised on a farm between Audubon and Coon Rapids, one of eight children. Edna attended rural school near her home and then at age 15 worked as a hired girl in the Cretsinger home when Sam was born. On June 16, 1931, Edna was united in marriage with Harold Hague. They were the parents of two children. Edna and Harold farmed near Audubon on the Hague home place until 1942 when they moved to a farm east of Coon Rapids. They raised many chickens and as a result Edna learned to use the eggs they couldn't market, the whites for her famous angel food cakes and the yolks for her equally famous noodles. Edna was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. She also belonged to the local chapter of TTT for over 60 years. When she and Harold were able, they did a lot of traveling to visit their children and Edna's siblings in Iowa. When Harold's health began to fail, Edna cared for him at home until he became a resident of the Thomas Rest Haven. He died in January of 1991. She remained in their home until 1999 when she moved to the Thomas Rest Haven. While there she was active and happy, partaking in many activities. Edna's health seriously deteriorated in mid-November 2009. She was transferred to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she died on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 8 days. Preceding Edna in death are her parents; husband; granddaughter Tammy Smith; and siblings Wanda Hart, Wilma Meggison, Lillis Francis, Bernice Tuel, Kenneth Taggart and Rev. Darrel Taggart. She is survived by her two children: Shirley and husband Byron Swedberg of Bellingham, WA and Mervin Hague and wife Audrey Joan of Gilbertsville, IA; four grandchildren Julie and husband Lynn Hildebrand; Bradley Hague; Scott Swedberg and wife Jeannie and Steve Swedberg and wife Nicole; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother Billie Taggart of Manning; other relatives and friends.
