She attended rural school near her home and then worked as a housekeeper for Mrs. Murphy before her marriage. Edith was united in marriage with Vernon Petersen on August 27, 1939, at Kronborg, NE. They farmed near Kimballton, Iowa and were blessed with two daughters. The couple also helped raise Vernon's nephew, Arlo Petersen, after his father was killed in a farm accident. They remained on the farm for fifty years and moved in to Kimballton in 1989. Due to Edith's care, Vernon was able to remain home when his health began to fail in mid-1999. He died on September 8, 2000. Edith was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church and Women's Circle in Kimballton. She was also a member of the China Painters' Club and Friendly Neighbor's Club. Edith enjoyed quilting and playing cards in her spare time. After her husband's death, Edith remained in their home until September of 2002 when she moved to an assisted-living community in The Dalles, OR to be near her daughters. She died there on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 1 day. Preceding Edith in death are her parents; husband; great-grandson Zachariah Larson; brothers Hjalmer Scott and Richard Scott and wife Aileen; brothers-in-law Gene Larson and Leon Petersen; and sister-in-law Virginia Kolb. Edith is survived by her daughters Lavon and husband Lloyd Rockford of Dufur, OR and Beverly and husband Rick Mathisen of Maple Valley, WA; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sisters Nita Larson of Harlan and Evelyn and husband Earl Beyer of Palm Springs, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
