Douglas A Bornhoft

Douglas Arlo, son of Arlo and Alice (Wenzel) Bornhoft, was born September 17, 1947, at Carroll, Iowa. He lived with his family on the farm and as he grew up, helped on the farm. Doug graduated from Manilla High School in 1965. He began working for a local seed corn company after completing his education. On June 19, 1971 Doug was united in marriage with Sheila Rae Engel. They made their home in Manilla and three children were born to this union. Doug continued to work for local seed corn companies, Sucrosco, Lynks, Apex and Blair Seed Services, throughout his life where he worked in production, primarily as a plant manager. Doug was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla. He enjoyed working outdoors, visiting his children and family vacations at Okoboji. He retired from the Manilla Volunteer Fire Department after many years of service. Doug died unexpectedly at his home in Manilla on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 15 days. Preceding him in death is his wife Sheila Bornhoft in 2007; father Arlo Bornhoft; father-in-law Leo Engel and brother-in-law Brad Georgius. Doug is survived by three children: Lisa Bornhoft of Manilla; Paul Bornhoft and wife Celene of Waukee and Kati Bornhoft of Ames; mother Alice Bornhoft of Denison; four siblings: Dennis Bornhoft and wife Sara of Irwin; Byron Bornhoft and wife Patty of Manilla; Lana Georgius of Manilla and Julie and husband Patrick Mooney of Denison; mother-in-law Ella Engel of Manilla; two brothers-in-law Doug Engel and wife Bev of Omaha, NE and Keith Engel and wife Ann of Sun City West, AZ; sister-in-law Kathy and husband Mike Kinter of Mesa, AZ; and many other relatives and friends.
