Dorothy Walz

Dorothy Mary, daughter of Louis and Barbara (Heidenreich) Reising, was born June 19,1920 in rural Sac County, between Wall Lake and Breda, IA. She graduated from Breda High School in 1937, worked for a period of time and then completed St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1941. During the war she received a proposal of marriage over the phone and on June 23, 1943 Dorothy was united in marriage with Wilbur "Web" Walz of Carroll. They made their home in Carroll and were the parents of five children. Dorothy worked at St. Anthony's Hospital as a registered nurse for many years and in many departments. She was also the care-giver for many family members. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and her bridge club of over fifty years. She was also a whiz at Sudoku and word-find puzzles. Her husband Web died in 1994 and Dorothy continued to live in their home in Carroll. ln March of 2011 she moved to Omaha into assistant living. On Friday, February 15, 2013 Dorothy died at Brookstone Village in Omaha, NE at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 27 days. Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; husband; two brothers Marcell Reising and Romaine Reising; five sisters Sister Emerentia Reising FSPA, Estella Steinkamp, Viola Koster, Rita Schwarzkopf, and Marian Schettler; and son-in-law Irving Dana, Jr. Survivors include three sons Thomas Walz (Blanca) of Phoenix, AZ; Terence Walz of Minneapolis, MN and Daniel Walz (Lisa) of Omaha, NE; two daughters Sr. Ann Terese Dana OSB of Winnebago NE and Jane Sather (Joe) of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandsons; other relatives and friends.
