Dorothy Grace Guyett, daughter of Lloyd and Lois (Johns) Guyett, was born May 1st, 1935. At the age of three, her mother passed away and Dorothy was raised by her step- mother, Ferne Taylor Travis Guyett. Dorothy graduated from Woodbine High School in 1953 and from Morningside College in 1955 with a degree in elementary education. She taught Kindergarten at Manilla, Iowa for three years. Dorothy was married to Robert Lohrmann of Manilla on June 28th, 1958. Dorothy retired from teaching to raise their family. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Jean, Sara and Jim. The family resided on the family farm west of Manilla. Dorothy was active in raising her children, assisting with 4-H projects and church activities, etc. Dorothy loved to landscape and decorate. Dorothy and Bob were avid ballroom dancers. In 1990, Dorothy became an entrepreneur and started Grandma Ds restaurant in Manilla, an elegant Tea House restaurant. In 2000, Dorothy and Bob moved from the farm into Manilla. Dorothy retired from the restaurant business to spend time with her family and friends. Dorothy was an avid sports fan and attended sporting events of grandchildren and friends. Dorothy loved to garden and beautify the world around her. Along with her flower garden at her house, Dorothy adopted the entry area of Manilla and devoted endless hours planting flowers and landscaping the land into a beautiful flower garden. Dorothy was very active in her community. Dorothy was an active member of the Manilla Area Historical Society doing the gardening for the Klondike Hotel.
Dorothy passed away on July 19, 2007, at Creighton University Hospital, Omaha, NE. Dorothy lived everyday to the fullest and passed on a smile to everyone she met. Dorothys last days were spent having fun with family and friends and putting the finishing touches on the gardens that she loved. With her passing, Dorothy is now planting flowers in a much bigger garden. Dorothys legacy lives on as her organs were donated so others could continue her smile.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.?
