Dorothy Ann Koenig, daughter of John and Margaret (Schmitz) Schenkelberg was born on September 19, 1916 in Halbur, Iowa. She attended Halbur Grade School and St. Angela Academy in Carroll. After graduating Dorothy began working for Schenkelberg's Store, her father's general store in Halbur.
On November 15, 1938 she was united in marriage with Vincent Koenig at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. The couple made their home in Carroll. With Jim Hoelcher, Dorothy and Vince owned and operated Main Ice Cream, a favorite downtown eating place, from the early 50's to 1971. In addition to caring for their three daughters, Dorothy was an active member of the Carroll community. She served as director of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, president of the Holy Spirit Ladies Guild and as a volunteer for the Friends of the Library. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge in the Bridgettes Bridge Club, getting involved in democratic politics, and in her younger years enjoyed playing golf and tennis.
In August 2008, Dorothy and Vincent moved to Omaha, Nebraska for health reasons and to be closer to family.
