Doris Elizabeth, daughter of Charles H. and Elizabeth (Campbell) Ramsey, was born November 20, 1920, at Botna, Iowa. She attended rural school near Botna. When Doris was seven years old, her mother died, and she continued to live at home with her dad and four brothers and one sister. She attended one year of high school at Abraham Lincoln in Council Bluffs where she lived with an aunt and uncle. She then returned home and attended Manilla High School for two more years. Her father then decided they should spend more time in Manning and she completed school there, graduating with the Class of 1939. After completing her Normal Training courses, Doris taught rural school for four years.

On April 14, 1946, Doris was united in marriage with Amos Rutz at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. During the war years while Amos was serving in the military overseas, Doris lived in California with her brother Howard. She worked at Lockheed Aircraft and Sees Candies. They returned to Manning where they raised their five children. Doris worked at Nelson Manufacturing for 17 years and did a lot of babysitting, however, she primarily considered herself a homemaker.

Doris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries. In her spare time she enjoyed playing the piano, walking, taking care of her home and, above all, visiting her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at church and at the American Legion and VFW.

In 2001, Doris became a resident of the Manning Plaza. Her health began to deteriorate in 2007 and she died there early Friday, August 3, 2007 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Preceding her in death are her husband Amos; parents and stepmother; four brothers Bill, Howard, Donald and Bob Ramsey and sister Neva Hahn and her husband Roy.

She is survived by her five children: Steven Rutz and his wife Marilyn of East Dubuque, IL; Bruce Rutz of Dubuque, IA; Kent Rutz and wife Beth of Council Bluffs; Susan Heldt of West Des Moines and Karl Rutz and wife Donna of Manning; 10 grandchildren: Troy Rutz and wife Anita; Stephanie and husband Adam Fuller; Jill Rutz; Julie Rutz; Nathan Rutz; Michelle Rutz; Kristopher Rutz; Amy Jo and husband Troy Ohnemus; Elissa Rutz and Aaron Rutz; four great-grandchildren: Jack Rutz; Lily Healy; Kristen Rutz and Brynn Fuller; step-brother Merlin Ramsey of Temple City, California; four sisters-in-law: Florence Ramsey of Manning; Charlotte Ramsey of Whittier, CA; Norma Rutz of Des Moines and Margery Mintle of Iowa City; brother-in-law Burton Rutz and wife Pat of Cedar Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
