Dennis "Horner" Craig Hansen was born on July 31, 1950, the son of Ralph Hansen and Elizabeth (Brannan) Hansen in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. Dennis attended Manilla Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1968. While in school he was an active member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. Following his education, he enrolled in barber school in Des Moines for a short time before returning to Manilla.
Denny married Sally Ann Van Scoy on July 7, 1973. The couple made their home in Manilla. Sally passed away October 31, 1976, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Denny was united in marriage with Janette Huelman on July 12, 1980, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla, Iowa and they recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Into this union, they welcomed one daughter, Kasey. The family made their home in Manilla. For 40 years, Denny was employed at Farmland/Smithfield Foods. He especially enjoyed his role in the communications committees with Farmland and meeting people from different Farmland plants from across the states.
In his spare time, Denny enjoyed bowling, golfing, shooting the BS at Primetimes, sports of all kinds, murder mysteries, and the Hallmark Channel. For several years, Dennis announced the high school football games. He was an avid fan of the Cardinals and Cyclones. He cherished time with his family, especially supporting his daughter in sports and school events, watching cartoons with the grandkids, and golf cart rides with Kyler and Kazic. After he got into his smartphone, Dennis loved getting pictures of his grandchildren.
Denny passed away suddenly at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Thursday, July 14, 2022, due to a medical event.
Denny was preceded in death by his father Ralph Hansen, his mother Elizabeth Grage and her husband Donald (Whitey) Grage, his wife Sally Hansen, brother-in-law Jerry Mills, Janette's parents Norbert & Lola Huelman, numerous aunts and uncles, and his best furry friend, Lucky.
