Darrell, son of Christian and Anna (Nielsen) Frederiksen, was born November 27, 1929, at Anita, Iowa. He and twin brother Dale were baptized following their birth. Darrell was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church near Kimballton and started high school in Audubon. He and Dale took off a year of school to work on the family farm, while their brother Arne was in the U.S. Navy. They returned to school and graduated in 1949.
On December 31, 1950, Darrell was united in marriage with Lenore Lange at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. On January 10, 1952, Darrell was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps. After boot camp at San Diego, California, he was assigned to Camp Pendleton and worked in Administration for two years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. He then returned to Iowa and farmed northeast of Elk Horn for 35 years. In 1989, he and Lenore moved into Elk Horn. In 2018, they made their home at Heritage House in Atlantic.
Darrell was a member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets #51 and a member of Elk Horn’s American Legion Post. He served on the ASCS County Committee in Audubon County for 25 years and Danish Mutual Insurance Board for 16 years. He also served on the FmHA County Committee in Audubon County and on the Elk Horn Lutheran Council.
On Friday, June 12, 2020, Darrell passed away at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 90 years, 6 months and 16 days of age.
Preceding him in death were his parents, son Mark, twin brother Dale, sister-in-law Betty, brother Arne, Arne’s infant twin brother and a sister Ella Mohr.
Surviving are his wife Lenore Frederiksen of Atlantic; a son Paul Frederiksen of Walnut with special friend Myra McCulloch of Tonka Bay, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Pat Frederiksen of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; granddaughters Jennifer (George) Smith of Omaha and Amy (Derek) Knop of Avoca; great-grandchildren: Jayson and Jacob Smith & Jayde and Jaxyn Valadez; a brother-in-law Jerry Mohr of Dallas, Texas; a sister-in-law Darlene Frederiksen of Lakewood, Colorado; and by nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives.
Graveside Funeral with Military Honors will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn. Darrell's family will receive friends in Elk Horn Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time.
