Dana Lynn Genzen, son of Daryl and Diane (Dalgety) Genzen, was born on December 23, 1961 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Dana was baptized and confirmed into the lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
A dedicated individual with a diverse career, Dana first completed his education at Manning High School, graduating in 1980. His journey then took him to serve in the United States Navy, where he joined the USS Navy and was stationed aboard the Commander Amphibious Squadron Three, including the flagship USS Okinawa and USS New Orleans LPH11.
Throughout his military career, Dana enriched his life with experiences during three six-month deployments to the Western Pacific, calling Hawaii, Australia, and Japan his temporary homes. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to California and pursued various jobs until 1985, when he came back to Manning, Iowa to work at Burcliff Industry.
In 2001, Dana relocated to Carroll, Iowa, where his career continued to flourish. He began working at Sitel in 2002, and by 2006, he had acquired Carroll Cab Inc. This new venture allowed him to connect with the community and build lasting friendships until his retirement in 2022.
Dana was an active member of the Morris Dunn American Legion Post 7 in Carroll, reflecting his commitment to service and community. He enjoyed traveling and cherished the time spent visiting his Navy buddies, demonstrating bonds formed through shared experiences.
Dana was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in April 2023. After chemo treatments, he succumbed to this disease on September 2, 2024 having attained the age of 62 years, eight months and ten days. Dana has generously donated his body to the Des Moines University Medicine and Health Science Program.
He will be remembered for his steadfast dedication, warm friendships, and the extensive impact he made during his lifetime. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who had the privilege to know him.
Dana was preceded in death by his father Daryl Genzen, brother David Genzen, paternal grandparents Lester and Irene Genzen, and maternal grandparents David and Selma Dalgety.
He is survived by his mother Diane Genzen of Manning; brother Dean Genzen of Manning; and sister-in-law Lori Genzen of Manning; nieces: Heather (Eric) Adams, Abby (Jon) Lapel and their children Riley and Kennedy Adams, and Levi and Taylor Lapel; his companion dog, Shiek; other relatives and friends. Committal Services will be held at the Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa at a later date.
