Dalores Marie, daughter of Louis and Bertha (Joachimsen) Hagedorn, was born September 18, 1919 in Ewoldt Township, Carroll County, Iowa. On August 29, 1920 Dalores was baptized into the Lutheran Faith in Aspinwall, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home and participated in Rural School Commencement at Carroll High School in 1933. After completing her education she cared for small children in the area for a while. She then worked in Des Moines, IA, California and Omaha, NE before returning to Iowa in 1949. On March 22, 1950 Dalores was united in marriage with Louie Otto at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. They made their home on the farm across the road from Elmer and Myrtle Otto northwest of Aspinwall. Dalores was a wonderful homemaker and helpmate to her husband while they lived on the farm. She was a great cook and loved company, always inviting anyone who stopped to come inside so she could take their photo for her many scrapbooks. Dalores and Louie were never blessed with children of their own; however, they helped raise their nephew Larry Hagedorn from the age of 12 and came to consider him and his family their own. Dalores and Louie held a farm sale early in 1988 and moved into Manning on February 21, 1988. They loved hosting family and friend gatherings in their home. Louie and Dalores (always together) were a happy and contented couple. Dalores was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Louie died February 26, 2004. Dalores remained in their home until her health began to fail. In 2006 she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. Dalores was transferred to the Manning Regional Heathcare Center where she died on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 18 days. Preceding Dalores in death are her parents; husband; siblings Alberta Grimm (Ernest), Alvin Hagedorn (Norma), Lewis Hagedorn (Marie) and Lorn Hagedorn. She is survived by her special nephew Larry Hagedorn (Beth) of Irwin and their daughters Ashley Hagedorn of West Des Moines and Jody Hagedorn of Irwin; sister Myrtle Otto of Manning and sister in law Milda Otto Malone of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
