Charles Warren "Chuck", son of Charles R. and Luella R. (Smeby) Mounce, was born May 26, 1930 at Maui, HI. Chuck graduated from Maui High School in 1948 and enrolled at Iowa State University, majoring in agronomy. On December 26, 1951 Chuck was united in marriage with Patricia Ann "Patty" Kelley at Lake City, IA. After he graduated from Iowa State in 1952, Chuck received his commission from the United States Air Force ROTC and was stationed for several years in San Antonio and Amarillo, TX; Tokyo, Japan; and Des Moines, IA. Chuck remained active in the Air Force reserves and retired as Major. Chuck and Patty moved to Cedar Rapids, IA in the late 1950s where he sold life insurance until 1979. They moved to Carroll, IA in 1979 where they fell in love with the people and the community and Chuck began selling veterinary supplies. In 1982 they relocated to Le Sueur, MN and Chuck started his own veterinary supply sales company in 1986. They returned to their favorite "hometown" of Carroll in 1993. Chuck stayed active in running his sales business until his retirement in 2012. Chuck was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll where he served as an usher. He was a past member of the Kiwanis and Lion's Clubs. He was a life member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary where he volunteered in many capacities. Chuck's love of music led him to All Strings Attached in Carroll and he served on their Board of Directors. He also served the Carroll community in multiple other volunteer positions. On Sunday, August 26, 2012, Chuck died at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll following a short illness. He was 82 years and 3 months of age. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and wife Patty Mounce in 2008. He is survived by his son Kerry Mounce and his wife Nancee of Bella Vista, AR; grandchildren: Nicholas Mounce and his wife Genny; Mary Beth Robinson and her husband Dominic; Paul Mounce and Mallory Mounce; 5 great grandchildren; brother David Mounce and his wife Char of Pinehurst, NC; sisters-in-law Kay Brown and her husband Fred of Fremont, NE, and Carol Eichhorn and her husband Phil of Lake City, IA; other relatives and many friends. Visitation with Chuck's family will be after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Chuck will be buried at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with his beloved Patty. The family invites everyone to lunch at the Holy Spirit Greteman Center following the committal service. Memorial donations in Chuck's honor may be made to All Strings Attached or the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation.
