Catherine Wiederien

July 26, 1918 — February 26, 2016

Catherine Mary, daughter of Louis and Josephine (Kuhn) Wadle, was born July 26, 1918 on a farm near Lacona, Iowa.  She attended Rosemount Catholic School until the 8th grade.  Catherine moved to Carroll County with her family in 1932 and worked as a domestic house keeper for several families.

On April 24, 1941 Catherine was united in marriage to Elmer Wiederien at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll.  From this union seven children were born. Elmer and Catherine lived on several different farms in the Carroll area until they settled in Dedham in 1946 to operate their own farm.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham and an honorary guild member.  Catherine enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting, crocheting, making rosaries and baking.  She especially loved her Sunday road trips in the country. Catherine took her last trip with her daughters to Wisconsin to see her sister-in-law in October of 2014. She never retired and was able to stay actively working and gardening through 2014. Catherine was a devoted mother and grandmother; she enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could.

Catherine became a resident at Swan Place in May of 2015.  She died there on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the age of 97 years and 7 months.

Preceding her in death are her husband Elmer in 2000; parents Louis and Josephine; brother Julian (Cecilia) Wadle; sister Teresa (Walter) Nieland; grandson Tom Adams; great grandson Nathan Bauer; son-in-law Marlin Bauer and step grandsons Ricky and Robert Wiederien.

Catherine is survived by her children JoAnn Bauer of Manning, Jim (Beth) Wiederien of Dedham, Daryl (Doris) Wiederien of Glidden, Duane (Molly) Wiederien of Bruceville, TX, Denis Wiederien of Glidden, Allan Wiederien of Glidden and Marla (Mike) Meister of Wall Lake; 35 grandchildren; 72 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
