C O Lamp, son of Gerhardt and Minnie (Hansen) Lamp, was born June 4, 1927 on a farm near Manning, Iowa. C O grew up on the family farm and attended Manning schools, graduating with the Class of 1944 at the age of 16. He left the hardships of the farm during the Great Depression to attend Drake University in Des Moines. After one year of college he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a top secret typist in the Pacific Ocean theatre. Following his honorable discharge, C O returned to Drake and earned a B.S. in Pharmacy in 1949. While working as a pharmacist at Hartig's Rexall Drug Store in Dubuque he met the love of his life Rosemary Joy Witter. They were united in marriage after her high school graduation on July 25, 1950. In 1955 he became co-owner of Darling Drug Store in Decorah and authored his first novel, "Journey to a Star." He moved his family to Des Moines in 1965 and entered Drake Law School, graduating in 1968 and passing the Iowa Bar on his first sitting. In order to practice law away from the snow, the family moved to Arizona where he passed the Arizona Bar. C O served as Deputy County Attorney in Maricopa County until the age of 69 years. He successfully argued a case that went to the Arizona Supreme Court and set many precedents. C O worked as a pharmacist on weekends at Good Samaritan and Boswell Hospital for a total of 22 years, specializing in IV's. After his retirement he served in pro-tem judicial roles and as a case mediator. C O continued his passion for writing and published ten additional novels. He will be remembered for the weekly column "Past and Present" in the Manning Monitor that he wrote for 39 years until the time of his death. He loved gardening, claiming he was a farmer at heart and would give a lot of his produce to others. C O was a lifetime member of the Royal Order of Scotland and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Jaycees honored him with "Outstanding Man of the Year." He successfully battled non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2003 and was in remission for seven years, which he viewed as a blessing from God. As a member of the Congregational Church in Sun City he served on a variety of committees and was always active in church life. He gave the pre-sermon commentary, or "Moderator Moments". C O died on February 1, 2011 in Sun City, AZ. Preceding him in death are his parents and grandparents Jochim and Agnes (Wiese) Lamp and John F. and Mary (Lorenzen) Hansen.
