Byron Lee Bornhoft

October 12, 1951 — July 1, 2023

Byron Lee Bornhoft, son of Arlo and Alice (Wenzel) Bornhoft, was born October 12, 1951, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Manilla and graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1969. Byron then farmed with his uncle.

On June 29, 1974, Byron was united in marriage with Patty Hupp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. A daughter and son were born to this couple. Byron continued farming with his uncle. Byron's love for farming was evidenced wherever he worked. Every position he ever held was agriculture related. His eventual retirement was from the Roger Ahrenholz family.

Throughout the years, Byron enjoyed participating in his community. He served as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the building committee for the present sanctuary and was very proud of his service with Manilla Fire Department and EMS. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Manilla Manor and a Trustee for Nishnabotna Cemetery. Even though Byron may not have been an official member of whatever organization was present, he would often be seen helping out wherever needed. In his retirement, Byron enjoyed doing yard work, tinkering in his garage and basement, and visiting with his family and neighbors.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, Byron passed away after a lengthy illness at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Byron is survived by his wife Patty of Manilla; daughter Melinda (Steve) Severs of Dumont; son David Bornhoft of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Makayla Severs and fiancé Andrew Zagar, Jordan and Megan Severs, and Sawyer; sister Lana Georgius of Manilla; brother-in-law Patrick Mooney of Pocahontas; two sisters-in-law Peggy Stillman of Manning and Deanna Hupp of Papillion, Nebraska; his mother-in-law Naomi Friedrichsen of Denison; step mother-in-law Margaret Hupp of Carroll; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
