Bonnie Nielsen

September 3, 1925 — April 24, 2014

Bonita "Bonnie" Alice, daughter of Anton August and Margaret (Murray) Hermeling, was born September 3, 1925 in Minnesota. She graduated from St. Boniface high School in Westphalia, Iowa when she was 16 years old and attended Duchesne Academy in Omaha. On March 28, 1958 Bonnie was united in marriage with Harley James Nielsen in Omaha, NE. Harley and Bonnie were the parents of one daughter. They lived outside of Council Bluffs until moving to a retirement apartment. Before her marriage Bonnie worked at the Martin Bomber Plant during World War II and later as a Yellow Cab Driver in Council Bluffs. Harley and Bonnie enjoyed going to car shows with their restored black cherry red Studebaker. Bonnie was a member of the Cornhusker Drivers Club. She loved playing board games with her grandchildren, playing Pitch, doing needlepoint, taking care of her pets and sitting on her deck watching wildlife. Bonnie was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2014. After a courageous battle, she died early Thursday morning at Josie Harper Hospice House, Omaha, NE on April 24, 2014 at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 21 days. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harley; parents; two brothers John and Joseph Hermeling and one sister Moinca. Bonnie is survived by her daughter Margaret (Peg) Stingley (Jerry) of Omaha, NE; three grandsons John Reese (Emily) of Des Moines, Tony Reese (Judy) of Aurora, CO and Wesley Stingley (Eva) of Omaha, NE; six great-grandchildren: Dakota, Kayla, Nick, Kenzie, Leslie and Keith; sister Betty Huebert (Jerry); brother Jim Hermeling (Mary) many nieces, nephews and friends.
