Blane Steffes, son of Frank and Cordellia (OTool) Steffes , was born April 11, 1946 at Carroll County, Iowa. Blane died Wednesday December 19, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after suffering a stroke two days prior.
He grew up in the Templeton area and attended school at Sacred Heart in Templeton. He also attended Kuemper High School.
On August 27, 1966 Blane was united in marriage with Colleen Hackfort at St. Marys Catholic Church in Willey by Fr. Francis Nemmers. Following marriage Blane worked for Jims Locker in Templeton and Alvin Steffes Plumbing and Heating in Templeton. He also sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha. In 1969 he went to work for IBP in Denison where he was injured in an industrial accident in 1976 and has been disabled ever since.
Blane was a member of the Iowa National Guard and a lifetime member of the DeWitt-Loustanau Post #20 of the Dedham American Legion. He was a bargain hunter and enjoyed garage sales, babysitting his grandchildren, spending time and visiting with friends, collecting almost everything especially cars, reading, and spending time with the many dogs in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kyle Steffes, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Agatha Hackfort, and brother-in-law Ed Frazier.
He is survived by his wife Colleen of Templeton; sons Kent Steffes of Ankeny, Kurt and wife Veronica Steffes of Dallas, Texas, Kevin Steffes of Carroll, Kory Steffes and fiance Valerie of Carroll, and Kyron Steffes and fiance Cassie of Urbandale; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brothers James Daniel and wife Sharon of Carroll, Elmer Steffes & wife Pat of North Carolina, and Alden Steffes; sisters Millie Hoffman and husband Norbert of Carroll, Leona Frazier of Vail, Iowa, and Diana Fischer & husband Bob of Knoxville, Iowa.
