Bethel J Doty

Bethel Jean, daughter of Floyd and Cecelia (Hupp) Sigler, was born October 11, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa. She lived with her family and grew up in Coon Rapids, graduating from Coon Rapids High School in 1956. On February 2, 1958 Bethel was united in marriage with Jerald Doty in Harlan. They settled in Coon Rapids and raised their large family there in both the Bridge Street and Second Street homes. She was very supportive of her children and grandchildren, attending all of their school activities. She preserved much of the produce raised in her husband's garden over the years. In addition, she cared for other children in her home, raised white tail deer and erected wonderful Christmas displays. Bethel did some seasonal work for Garst and Thomas and worked for the laundry department at St Anthony Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed game shows on television and loved to have fun. However, when she said something, she meant it. Another passion was holding and attending garage sales (usually bringing home more than she sold) and providing for anyone in need. It was said that she had a mini Wal-Mart in her basement. She was also an avid John Wayne fan. Bethel had a fall sustaining some broken bones in the fall of 2012 and then after the death of her husband on December 5, 2012 she moved back to her parents' home on Second Street. Her health continued to decline and she died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St Anthony Hospital in Carroll at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 24 days. Preceding her in death are her parents and husband. She is survived by children Randy (Cindy) Doty of Pella; Ryan Doty of Coon Rapids; Roger (Tiffany) Doty of Coon Rapids; grandchildren she raised as her own: Ragina Doty and Reno Doty both of Coon Rapids; two children she raised later in life: Rayna and Rex Doty also of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Mindy, Ashley, Brenda, Raiden and Randa; five great grandchildren and many friends.
