Bert Cameron, son of Peter and Minnie (Christensen) Niklasen, was born October 28, 1917, at home in Audubon County, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Anita. Bert was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith early in life. He attended country school and graduated from Adair High School in 1935.

On March 18, 1937, Bert was united in marriage with Helen Turner at the Lutheran Parsonage in Adair. They farmed near Anita for one year before moving to the present family farm near Kimballton where Bert and Helen raised their four children. Bert was a farmer all his life.

Bert was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was the bell ringer for over 50 years. He read several newspapers and enjoyed spending time with his family. After the death of his wife in 1999, Bert remained on the farm.

Bert suffered a fall on Monday, October 1, 2007 just after he had finished combining his beans for the year. He never fully recovered from the fall and died on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; brother-in-law Lars Larsen and niece Anne Madsen.

Bert is survived by his four children: Doris and husband John Schuning of Harlan; Myrna and husband Fred Anthony of Pella; Jean and husband Richard Woods of Trenton, MO and Dale Niklasen and wife Betty of Kimballton; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister Emma Larsen of Audubon; brother-in-law Neil Turner and wife Norma of Atlantic; three sisters-in-law: Sarah and husband Frank Forsyth of California; Rachael Mueller of California and Mary Lopez of Arizona; other relatives and many friends.
