Bernadine Marie Tootie?, daughter of Warren and Ethel (Reid) Bower, was born August 24, 1932 at home near Coon Rapids, Iowa. At the age of six months, she went to live at the home of her aunt and uncle Edward E. and Katie (Dory) Reid, and became their adoptive daughter.  Tootie attended school in Coon Rapids, graduating with the Class of 1949. She then earned her teaching certificate after two years at Drake University in Des Moines. She taught elementary school in Bagley for a short time. While teaching in Bagley Tootie met John James Jim? Anderson. They were united in marriage on August 7, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and were the parents of two children. The family lived in Coon Rapids where Bernadine substitute taught in the elementary school. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Later in life Tootie cared for her parents and continued her life-long habit of caring for others. She would run errands for her friends, took them to appointments and often treated her friends to dinner. Tootie thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends visiting and shopping. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

When Tooties health began to fail, she became a resident of Huxley Ballard Creek Assisted Living to be near her son and his family.  In 2007 she moved to Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids. She died there on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 13 days. Preceding her in death are her parents and four siblings: Pauline and her husband Wilbur Herron; Maurice Bower; Jerry Bower and Richard Bower and wife Jeannie.

Tootie is survived by her two children Lynn and husband Tom Annear of Cheyenne, WY and John Anderson and wife Jill of Huxley; three grandchildren Kae Anderson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Julie Anderson of Kenosha, WI and Andrew Annear of Cheyenne, WY; four siblings: Phyllis and husband Bill Mozena of Golden, CO; Juanita Shaffer of Cheyenne, WY; Donna and husband Don Sorensen of Coon Rapids and Gloria Zabukover of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law Patti Bower of Panora; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
