Barbara Jane, daughter of Ray and Nora (Griffin) Lasley, was born December 28, 1935, at Red Oak, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Red Oak High School. Barbara was united in marriage on October 15, 1953, with Nathan Butcher at Yuma, AZ, when he was home on leave from the military. When her husband was sent to Korea, she moved back to Emerson, IA, to live with his grandmother. After her husband was discharged from the military, they made their home in Omaha, NE, where their three children were born. During this time, Barbara was a full time homemaker caring for her children. She moved to Audubon, IA, in 1974, where she operated her own ceramic shop. Later in life she was married again and took the name Barbara Lebeck. Barbara then moved to Kimballton and worked at Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn. Wherever she lived, Barbara enjoyed life, collecting angels, plates, bells and family photos. Cooking for her family, crocheting and reading filled her spare time. Barbara attended the United Methodist Church in Irwin, where she had moved in 2004 to be near her daughter. Shortly after her move to Irwin, Barbaras health began to decline and in mid-2006 she was diagnosed with cancer. She died at her home in Irwin on Monday, October 23, 2006, at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 25 days.
