Barb O'Tool

Barbara Jean, daughter of Merle Wilson and Lillian Adelia (Stone) Vaughan, was born September 24, 1942, in Audubon County, Iowa. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1960 and then worked at various retail jobs through the years. Barb especially enjoyed working at the Vaux Market in Bayard. Barb was united in marriage with William "Bill" Dean Olesen on November 13, 1961 and four children were born to this union. She continued to work outside the home and be a full-time homemaker. Her husband Bill died in 1990. On August 22, 1992, Barb was united in marriage with Arlen O'Tool at the Church of Christ in Bayard and the couple moved to Coon Rapids. Barb enjoyed completing all kinds of puzzles, especially crossword puzzles. She loved to spend time keeping in touch with family and friends. Barb was a good cook and baker and will be remembered for her snickerdoodle cookies. Barb fought cancer for over four years. Barb died after a two week stay at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, on Sunday September 5, 2010. She was 67 years, 11 months and 12 days of age. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Bill Olesen; son Ryan O'Tool; and sisters Phyllis Vaughan and Patricia Byers. Barb is survived by husband Arlen O'Tool of Coon Rapids; children: Jodi Faga of Byron, GA; Laurie (Lee) Christianson of Wolsey, SD; Billy Olesen of Ogden; Bobbe Olesen (Don Lestrud) of Olathe, KS; Don (Norma) Olesen of Bayard; Jeff (Sherry) Olesen of Groveland, FL; Sherry (John) Rattliff of New Port Richie, FL; Faith (Jose) Laboy of Guthrie Center; Becky (Tim) Bianchi of Mitchellville; Pat (Stacy) O'Tool of Carroll; April (Mark) Tigges of DeSota; Wil (Amy) O'Tool of Indianola; Clancy (Becky) O'Tool of Lake City; Casey O'Tool of Des Moines; 23 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister LuAnn Keenan of Onawa; brother Chet (Sandy) Vaughan of Bayard; brother-in-law Larry Byers of Blencoe; other relatives and friends.
