Arthur John, son of John Bernard amd Eleanora (Tigges) Greteman was born February 23, 1932 at Willey, Iowa. He attended grade school at St. Marys in Willey and high school at Loras Academy in Dubuque. Upon his graduation he served in the U.S. Army.
On May 15, 1956 Arthur was united in marriage with Marilyn McGrane at St. Josephs Church in Carroll. The couple soon moved to Willey to run Gretemans Store after the death of Arthurs father. In addition to running the family store Art drove the bus for the Kuemper Schools. In 1978, the store closed and Art began working for Terra Western. The family later moved to Carroll where Art drove a truck for Juergens Produce and Feed. He retired in 1997.
Art was an active member of Holy Spirit Church and the Carroll American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, bird and deer watching at Swan Lake, and visiting with family and friends.
On March 9, 2009, Arthur was admitted to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where he passed away peacefully that evening, at the age of 77 years and 14 days.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and wife Marilyn in 2002.
He is survived by sons: Bill Greteman and wife Jeanette of Westside; Dick Greteman and fiance Kathy Olson of Ralston; Steve Greteman of Carroll and Denny Greteman of Carroll; daughter Linda and husband Eugene Bair of Westside; 7 grandchildren; brothers Edward Greteman and wife Liz of Billings, MT and Martin Greteman and wife Pat of Carroll; sister Lucille Tobin of Cincinnati, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
