Arthur Bernard, son of John Jacob and Amalia Mollie? (Wenzel) Fielweber, was born July 15, 1915, in Manning, Iowa. Art was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He attended Manning Schools and graduated with the Class of 1933. He farmed and did carpentry and plumbing work after his graduation. Art was drafted into the United States Army in July of 1940/June 1941 and honorably discharged in November of 1945. He served with the non-combatant cabinetmakers at Ft. Leonard Wood in Kansas and was also involved with troop movement in the United States and the European Theatre. On September 6, 1942, while home on leave from the Army, Art was united in marriage with Frances Lage at the Lutheran Church in Manning. After Art returned from the service, he and Frances lived on a farm northwest of Manning with her parents whom they cared for. He was a farmer and carpenter; building many homes in the Manning area with his father and brother. Art was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the board and finance council. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his nieces and nephews. After the death of his wife in 1980, Art continued to live on the farm until December of 2000 when he became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. He died there on Friday, April 7, 2006, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 23 days. Preceding Art in death are his parents, wife and two sisters Ermyle Fielweber and Arlene Tapps. He is survived by his brother Charles Fielweber and wife Marlin of Manning; sister Ellen Fielweber; two sisters-in-law Ruth Schroeder of Burnsville, MN and Marian Jackson of Irvine, CA; brother-in-law Maynard Tapps of Manson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
