Amanda Mathilda, daughter of Gustav and Mary (Carstensen) Koester, was born December 4, 1914, on the family farm in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural school and then worked on the family farm.

On December 14, 1938, Amanda was united in marriage with Herman Lamp in Carroll. They farmed south east of Manning for thirty years, retiring on February 1, 1968. They moved into their home in Manning. Herman died on February 26, 1982 and Amanda continued to live in their home until  1992 when she became the first resident of Willow Creek Apartments. Amanda had made substantial cash donations to the Manning  Housing Corporation that made the Willow Creek and Lamp Apartment complexes possible.

Amanda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning and served as president of the Presbyterian Womens Organization. She was active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries. Amanda was a founding board member of the West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation in which she served many years as treasurer. The Manning Hospital and Plaza Auxiliary benefited from her many years of membership and executive board participation. In her later years, Amanda made substantial financial donations to many Manning organizations.

When Amanda was no longer able to care for herself, she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 2001. She died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, five brothers Louis, Herman, Julius, Henry and Harry Koester; and sisters Ida Wunder and Hilda Meyer.

Amanda is survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
