Alvina Elizabeth, daughter of John and Anna (Bauer) Tigges was born on September 19, 1922, near Willey, Iowa.  She attended St. Marys School in Willey and later began working with her sister as a housekeeper.

On November 13, 1940, Alvina was united in marriage with Gerhardt Butch? Beckman at St. Marys Catholic Church in Willey. The couple soon moved to Michigan and lived there for two years. In 1942 Butch was drafted into the Army and served for four years. Upon his discharge the couple moved back to the Carroll area, settling in Manning in 1947.

Alvina worked in Manning as a devoted wife and homemaker until 1965, when she began working for Nelson Manufacturing. She retired in the late 1970s. Alvina was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society in Manning and in her spare time she enjoyed visiting with family, playing BINGO, and watching Cubs baseball.

On February 25, 2009, Alvina became a resident of the Swan House in Carroll while recovering from heart surgery.  She died there on February 28, 2009, at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 9 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Butch in 2006; five brothers: Victor, Otmar, Clarence, William and Kenneth Tigges; six sisters: Alveda Hoesing, Catherine Feld, Regina Schenkelberg, Clotilda Tigges, Ellen Pfeiffer and Patricia Smith; daughter-in-law Cheryl Koenig Beckman; and sons-in-law Larry Dopheide and Fred Eischeid.
