Alvin Martin, son of Charley and Mae Lengeman, was born December 7, 1924 in Carroll, Iowa. He lived with his family and grew up on their farm near Coon Rapids. He attended Coon Rapids Schools. After completing his education, he farmed with his father until his father's death, and then Alvin relocated to Fort Dodge. On June 26, 1971 Alvin was united in marriage with Patricia Hoffman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Fort Dodge where Alvin worked for Webster City Products. Alvin retired in 1985 and the family remained in Fort Dodge until 1997 when they moved to Urbandale to be nearer to their daughter and granddaughter. Alvin thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family. He also enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Urbandale and Johnston Senior Centers. He attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale. Alvin died surrounded by family at home in Urbandale on November 4, 2014 at the age of 89 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Carl Lengeman (Alice) and Leo Lengeman (Jean) and sister Dorothy Steffes (John). He is survived by his wife Patricia Lengeman; daughter Pam Ackerson and granddaughter Courtney Ackerson, all of Urbandale; sister in law Alice Lengeman, of Coon Rapids; as well as other relatives and friends.
