Allan John Weitl

April 18, 1953 — June 21, 2010

Allan John, son of Alfred Carl and Ella Regina (Riesberg) Weitl, was born April 18, 1953 at Carroll, Iowa. He attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton and worked on his family's farm. Al was baptized and received his first holy communion at Sacred Heart Church. In 1984 Al became a resident of the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, Iowa, where he also worked as a custodian. His favorite activity by far was talking on the phone with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. A close second was riding in a convertible with the top down (and without his seat belt!). Throughout Al's life riding his bicycle, smoking cigarettes and drinking Pepsi were great pleasures for him. He had a great sense of humor and had a nickname for everyone. Al looked forward to coming home for the holidays and having dinner out at "Tom & Tiff's" for his birthday. Spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, was of the utmost importance to him. Al had a severe illness in late May when he was hospitalized at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE. He died there on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 3 days. He is preceded in death by his father Alfred Weitl and brother-in-law Bernard "Benji" Havermann. Al is survived by his mother Ella Weitl of Manning; eight siblings: Howard Weitl and wife Sharon of Audubon; Noreen and husband Ray Armour of Ft. Dodge; Doris and husband Bernie Hirman of Elk River, MN; Janice and husband Paul Klaus of Forest Lake, MN; Gary Weitl and wife Mary of Templeton; Sharon and husband Ken Wicker of Independence, MO; Gene Weitl and wife Polly of Audubon; Dave Weitl and wife Kris of Pine, CO; 24 nieces and nephews; 32 great nieces and nephews; the caring staff at Glenwood Resource Center (especially Becky Lingren); other relatives and friends.
