Alice M. Goreham

November 2, 1927 — December 1, 2014

Alice Marion, daughter of Henry and Magdelan (Schulte) Roth, was born Halbur, Iowa on November 2, 1927. Her family moved to Nevada for a few years, but returned to make Carroll their home. Alice graduated from St. Angela's Academy then worked as a secretary for Omaha Cold Storage where she met her future husband. On April 5, 1948, Alice was united in marriage with Raymond Goreham at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Thirteen children were born to this union. Though primarily a homemaker, Alice wore many hats. In the late 1960's and 1970's Alice sold Stanley Home Products. She also worked part-time in the kitchen at Holy Spirt School. By the mid-1970's Alice began her best-known role of in-home daycare provider. Grandma Alice, as she was affectionately called, opened her doors to many children until her retirement in the late 1990's. Raymond died in 2008, soon after their 60th wedding anniversary. Alice continued to live in their home until her declining health necessitated a move to Sunnybrook in 2011. She moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home in 2012. On Monday, December 1, 2014, Alice died peacefully there at the age of 87 years and 29 days. Though she is gone from this world, she is never far from the many lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Goreham; sons Raymond H. Goreham and Dean Goreham; and twin daughters Mary and Ann Goreham. Alice is survived by her 9 children: Linda Beeson (Bob), Riverside; Dian Slaven (Stan), Portsmouth; Michael Goreham (Debra), Manhattan, KS; Paula McCrea (Mark), Carroll; Judy Lovrien (Marty), Alexandria, MN; Lee Goreham (Bonnie), Clare; Angela Weck (Shawn), Peoria, IL; Amy Goreham, Des Moines; Dave Goreham (Kelly), Denver; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings: Tom Roth (Marilyn), Livingston, MT; Bill Roth (Betty), Valparaiso, FL; Phyllis Luke (Maurice), Sac City; and Judy Pietz (Jim), Oregon City, OR.
