Alice Isabelle, daughter of George and Delia (Giblin) Knott both of Irish descent, was born May 26, 1912, at home on the family farm near Manilla in Crawford County, Iowa. The farm had been in the family since the 1880s. She attended Iowa Township #4 rural school and then Normal Training for her Teachers Certificate. Alice taught country school in the Manilla area and at Neola Public School for many years.
In the 1950s Alice returned to the farm to care for the home and cook for her brothers Lloyd and Francis, who farmed the land. In later years she moved into a home in Manilla where she lived with brothers Lloyd and Francis.
Alice was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla and the Altar and Rosary Society. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, house plants, baking, cooking, sewing, mending and reading.
Alice became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla in 1994. She died there on Monday, February 25, 2008, at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 30 days.
Preceding her in death are her parents; five brothers: George, Jr., Edward, Francis, and twins Lloyd and Floyd Knott; three sisters: Anna Mae Reiff; Estelle Kelly and LaVerne Knott.
Alice is survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen Knott of Manilla and Judy Knott of Harlan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
