Alice A. Beck

April 3, 1924 — September 6, 2013

Alice Ann, daughter of Fred and Emma (Ruge) Musfeldt, was born April 3, 1924, at home west of Manning in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Manning High School. Alice taught for two years in the Audubon and Crawford county rural schools and then joined the Army Cadet Nurse Corps in Illinois. It was there she met Harold Beck, and following his discharge from the service they were united in marriage on December 15, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They lived on the Beck family farm for eight years and then farmed near the Five Mile House. Alice returned to school at the age of 47 to become an LPN. In addition to being a busy mother and farm wife, Alice worked at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. In 1978 Alice and Harold moved to California where they managed apartments near Fresno. Due to Harold's failing health they retired in 1997 and moved to Omaha, NE. Harold died the following fall, but Alice continued to live in Omaha until moving back to Manning. Through the years Alice was active in her church communities, most recently Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Alice and Harold traveled extensively throughout the United States, as well as Europe, the Caribbean and China. Alice moved to the Manning Plaza in 2010 when she began to need more care. She died there on Friday morning, September 6, 2013, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 3 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Harold Beck in 1998; children Russell in infancy and Dennis Beck in 1970; granddaughter Katherine Beck and brothers Kelly Musfeldt (Luella), Harry Musfeldt (Dorothea) and Don Musfeldt (Trudy). She is survived by her children: Judy Kelly of Fresno, CA; Robert Beck (Jennifer) of Omaha, NE; Paula Willett (Jim) of Cedar Rapids; Chrissie Lettow (Kris) of Arvada, CO; and Marsha Beck of Lakewood, CO; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
