Ada Huffaker

    Ada Darlene Huffaker, age 98, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa.  Ada Huffaker was born November 23, 1921 in Bayard, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Susie (McCord) Adamson.  She was raised on the family farm north of Bayard and graduated Valedictorian of the Bayard High School Class of 1939.  She obtained her teaching degree from Simpson College in 1941.  On October 24, 1942 Ada was united in marriage with Richard Huffaker at a small ceremony in Princeton, Missouri.  Two daughters were born to this union.  They made their home in Farrar, Iowa where they farmed and Ada started her teaching career until they moved to a farm near Bayard. Ada continued teaching for 21 years, primarily in Bayard, but also Yale and Bagley.  Ada and Richard were blessed with 57 years of marriage.


   Ada’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family and traveling with Richard.  She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a heart of gold.  She enjoyed music and learned to play the guitar at the age of 80.  She made afghans for her family members and friends.  Ada and Richard traveled as winter snowbirds for many years.  Ada was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Bayard, the Birthday Club, Help You Club and the Red Hat Ladies.


   Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Richard Huffaker on August 6, 2000: her sisters Lenore Shirbroun and Virginia Warren; great-grandsons Joshua and Matthew Smith and a nephew they raised, Don Huffaker. 


   Survivors include her daughters: Sandra and her husband Chet Vaughan of Red Oak, IA and Nancy and her husband Don Tague of Granger, IA; 8 grandchildren: Randy (Jackie) Vaughan of Grimes; Deb (Lynn) Smith of Bayard; Perry (Jamie) Tague of Granger; Vicky (Bill) Kaiser of Alliance, NE; Genie (Brian) Olesen of Granger; Sherry (Todd) Carrick of Red Oak; Terry (Tracy) Tague of Granger and Richie (Sherrie) Tague of Granger; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Harold Long of Maxwell, IA; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
